Apple is reportedly testing Apple Pencil with Vision Pro support

According to reports, Apple may release a version of the stylus for tablets that can be used with the first-generation Apple Vision Pro mixed reality headset. The company is said to be testing a version of the Apple Pencil that works with visionOS, Apple’s new operating system that launched alongside Vision Pro. Recent reports indicate that the company plans to launch new Apple Pencil and Magic Keyboard as well as new iPad models in the coming weeks.

mike rumor Report Citing an unnamed source familiar with the matter, the iPhone maker is currently testing an Apple Pencil that works with VisionOS. As of now, existing Apple Pencil models can be used with iPad mini (5th generation), iPad (6th generation), iPad Air (3rd generation), iPad Pro 9.7-inch and newer models.

If these claims are true, users may be able to use upcoming Apple Pencil models while wearing the Apple Vision Pro. While the details of how this works are currently unclear, the report speculates that users may be able to use Apple Pencil to draw on an iPad held horizontally and view the output on the Vision Pro.

According to a recent report, Apple plans to launch new iPad Pro and iPad Air models, which could be available as early as next month. The Pro model is said to feature Apple’s latest 3nm M3 chip and an OLED screen (a first for an iPad), while the Air model may feature an M2 processor and a horizontally aligned landscape camera.

A new Apple Pencil is also expected to debut with new iPad Pro and iPad Air models, but it’s unclear whether the accessory will be compatible with VisionOS. The report also states that Apple needs to update visionOS – possibly to version 2 – to add Apple Pencil support. We expect to learn more details in the coming weeks or at WWDC, when the company will roll out new software updates and features.
