Apple has already catered to some markets with its eSIM-only iPhone, and we could soon see Google follow the same path. Reports released this week suggest that Android can finally easily transfer an eSIM profile to another device, finally making it a viable option for millions of Android users.

Details of this feature come from Mishaal Rahman, who discovered the new option while using Samsung’s new Galaxy S24 Ultra and the new One UI update in this report. The whistleblower has the option to move an eSIM from one Android system to another, and both are from different brands, which is certainly an upgrade from previous support.

eSIM transfer can be done by scanning a QR code available for many Android phones. Samsung offers an eSIM transfer option for Galaxy devices with One UI version 5.1, but the latest version appears to let you transfer from a Samsung phone to a non-Samsung phone.

The fact that Samsung has successfully opened eSIM transfer to other Android 14 phones suggests that Google is close to making the feature compatible with all phones running Android 14 versions. That being said, tipsters note that eSIM transfer support is only available if you use specific networks in the US.

Apple sells eSIM-only iPhone models in the United States, and with the new compatibility, many people can switch from iPhone to Android and vice versa if they want to continue using a phone that only supports eSIM profiles.

Today, most high-end phones like the Pixel 8 series and iPhone 15 models offer eSIM as a secondary network option, and making the transfer option easier will see more Indian Android users ditch the physical SIM network.
