Andrew Tate arrives at a Romanian court in handcuffs after being arrested on a British warrant

Andrew Tait and his brother Tristan arrived in a Romanian court this morning in handcuffs after a European arrest warrant was issued in the UK.

Lawyers representing four women who have accused Andrew Tait of rape and sexual assault have written to British police asking for his detention amid fears he will flee Romania.

Representatives for the 37-year-old social media influencer and his 35-year-old brother Tristan said they were detained after British authorities issued a European arrest warrant on charges dating from 2012 to 2015.

They will appear before the Bucharest Court of Appeal today to decide whether to execute the arrest warrant.

McCue Jury & Partners, the law firm representing Tate’s UK accusers, said in a statement: “Last week we received information that Tate may be planning to flee Romania, where he will stand trial on separate charges of rape and human trafficking.

“We have written to UK police to draw this matter to their attention and urge them to immediately seek an arrest warrant for Tate to be detained in Romania and extradited to the UK.”

The law firm said Hertfordshire Constabulary was investigating the claims made by four UK accusers

The Tate brothers were arrested in the country’s capital in December 2022 along with two Romanian women and were charged in a separate case in Romania with rape, human trafficking and forming a criminal gang to sexually exploit women.

All four deny the accusations.

A representative for the Tate brothers said in a statement today: “The Tate brothers are dismayed and deeply disturbed by the confusing re-emergence of allegations from a decade ago.

“They categorically reject all allegations and express their deep disappointment that such serious allegations have been re-laid without substantial new evidence.

“The Tait brothers claim that the timing and circumstances in which these allegations have resurfaced raise serious questions about the motives behind this legal action.

“The suggestion that Mr. Tate’s rise to fame may have played a role in these developments adds an additional layer of distress and concern.”

Commenting on the detention of the Tait brothers, Matthew Jury, managing partner at McCue Jury & Partners, said: “Today’s news is very welcome as many are deeply concerned that Andrew Tait will seek to evade justice in Romania and abroad .

“We are grateful to the UK authorities for taking our concerns seriously and issuing the arrest warrant.

Mr Jury also called on the media to refrain from such extensive exposure of Mr Tate, saying: “Since his arrest in Romania, [Andrew] Tate spread a wealth of false information about the criminal charges he faces in the UK in a series of high-profile interviews with the likes of Piers Morgan and Tucker Carlson.

“We hope that recent developments will deter them and others from continuing to provide Tate with such a platform, or at least encourage them to properly question him on these allegations.

“Allowing Tait to spread false information about the criminal charges he faces, not just in the UK, will only help support and spread his toxic influence among vulnerable young men and boys, which we should all seek to stamp out Condition.”

A representative for the former kickboxer said the pair “unequivocally deny all allegations” and are “fully committed to challenging these allegations with unwavering resolve and determination”.

The statement added: “As the Bucharest Court of Appeal opens today, the Tate brothers remain hopeful that the court will consider the wider implications of this case and its potential impact on justice and due process.

“They remain steadfast in their pursuit of truth and justice and believe that the legal system will ultimately prove their innocence.”

Mr Tate told his fans the legal charges against him were a plot to silence him.
