Amit Shah observes September 17 as 'Hyderabad Liberation Day'

The Center has declared September 17 every year as “Hyderabad Liberation Day”. The Ministry of Home Affairs of India stated in a notification that after India’s independence on August 15, 1947, Hyderabad did not gain independence within 13 months and has been under the rule of the Nizam family.

The area was liberated from the Nizam’s rule on September 17, 1948, following the police operation known as Operation Polo.

“However, the people of the region have demanded that September 17 be celebrated as Hyderabad Liberation Day.

The notice read: “Now, in order to commemorate the martyrs who liberated Hyderabad and instill the flame of patriotism in the youth, the Indian government has decided to designate September 17 every year as ‘Hyderabad Liberation Day.’”

Home Minister Amit Shah said, “This is a historic day when Prime Minister Narendra Modi has decided to observe September 17 every year as Hyderabad Liberation Day to commemorate the Martyrs of the Liberation Movement of Rabaa.”

He added: “This decision is a fitting tribute to the freedom fighters and martyrs who made huge sacrifices to liberate Hyderabad region from the brutal Nizam’s rule and retain a part of Bharat. “

After India gained independence, the Razakar family called for Hyderabad State to either join Pakistan or become a Muslim territory while refusing to merge with the Indian Union.

The people of the region heroically resisted the atrocities of the Razakars and incorporated the region into the Indian Union.

The Razakar was a private militia that committed atrocities and defended the Nizam’s rule in Hyderabad.

On September 17, 1948, the state of Hyderabad, ruled by the Nizams, was merged into the Indian Union following a military campaign launched by the then Home Minister Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel.

For the past few years, the Narendra Modi government has held events every year on September 17 to commemorate “Hyderabad Liberation Day.” Union Home Minister Amit Shah has also attended the event in the past.
