Kyiv:
Ukrainian President Zelensky will visit Istanbul on Friday to hold talks with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan on the war against Russia and Black Sea navigation, the Turkish president said.
The president said in a message posted on X (formerly Twitter) on Thursday that “the situation between Ukraine and Russia and the latest contacts regarding the resumption of the Black Sea Security Corridor” will be at the center of the meeting.
The two leaders will meet at Istanbul’s Dolmabahce Palace and will hold a press conference at 7:00 pm (1600 GMT), the ministry added.
Zelensky’s last visit to Turkey was in July 2023, when he held lengthy talks with Erdogan, who also has close ties with Moscow.
When Zelensky returned to Kiev, he brought back five senior commanders from the Azov regiment, who were supposed to stay in Turkey until the conflict was over under a prisoner-of-war agreement with Moscow.
Members of the regiment played a key role in defending the city of Mariupol until it fell to Russian hands in May 2022.
