A US student has spoken out for the first time about an attack that left her unresponsive and seriously injured in her dormitory. nbc newsIsabella Willingham’s family was quoted as saying she stopped breathing on her own for 23 minutes after the attack. The 21-year-old said that when her roommate found her bruised and unconscious last November, neither she nor police could figure out what was going on. She is now working to raise awareness about the lack of protection for students at Asbury University, where she was attending at the time of the attack.
“I believe God has forgiven me because I am now on a mission to expose safety issues on campus. Students definitely need more protection than they are getting,” Ms. Willingham told nbc news.
“I hope what happened to me draws attention to the fact that Asbury needs more cameras at all exits and entrances,” she added.
Ms Willingham said she still had no memory of what happened to her on November 27 and the injuries were so severe that her memory was fragmented.
However, Ms Willingham insisted she never left the dormitory on the day of the incident.
A rape kit and toxicology report from that night showed Willingham was not sexually assaulted and “nothing of concern was noted,” according to police. nbc news Report.
“It was probably a group of girls. I barely talked to anyone. I knew three people on campus. Like, I never left my room and I just thought it was girls because I only knew girls,” she explain.
Ms Willingham said she felt “violated” and did not want to return to Asbury until the culprits were caught.
