Qatar’s Al Jazeera TV channel said on Tuesday that two of its journalists were seriously injured in an Israeli attack on the southern Gaza city of Rafah.

Al Jazeera quoted an emergency doctor as saying that journalist Ismail Abu Omar’s right leg was amputated and his life was in danger, while doctors were working to save his left leg.

Al Jazeera said photographer Ahmed Matar was in “serious” condition after an Israeli drone attack north of Rafah.

The two journalists have been taken to the European Hospital on the southern edge of the city of Khan Younis.

The health ministry in Hamas-controlled Gaza said the two were hit in an attack by Israeli warplanes on the Moraj area.

The Hamas government media office said it “condemns in the strongest terms the attack by the Israeli occupying forces on Al Jazeera staff.”

The Israeli military had no immediate comment on the attack when contacted by AFP, saying only that it would verify details of the incident.

Two other journalists from the broadcaster were killed in Israel’s war with Hamas in Gaza, and bureau chief Wal Dahdou was injured.

Last month, his son, fellow journalist Hamza Wael al-Dahdouh, and another video journalist, Mustafa Thuria, were involved in an attack by Israeli forces on a Killed in a car.

Samer Abu Daqqa, a photographer for the network, was killed in a separate strike in December.
