AI framework will be made public as soon as new government is formed: Minister

Ashwini Vaishnav said that a strong AI framework has been created.

New Delhi:

As artificial intelligence (AI) based synthetic content has become a major concern during global elections including in India, Union Railway and IT Minister Ashwini Vaishnav on Tuesday said a strong framework on AI to deal with its misuse and public consultation will be in place. is ready. The outline will start as soon as the new government is formed.

Speaking to IANS, the Union Minister said there have been fruitful conversations with the IT industry in recent months on the misuse of AI and how to prevent it.

“We have to use AI for public good and also prevent its misuse. We have to find the right balance. After the new government is formed in June, we will start public consultation on the AI framework,” Ashwini Vaishnav told.

The government worked on a draft regulatory framework for AI amid concerns over a rise in deepfakes and user harms associated with the new technology.

It aims to use AI for economic growth and address potential risks and disadvantages by setting guardrails.

Internet platforms and social media intermediaries in India have a legal obligation to ensure that no misinformation or deepfakes find space on their respective platforms.

The government is regularly monitoring the compliance of intermediaries with the IT Rules, 2021 and the instructions given by the IT Ministry.

A new advisory from the IT Ministry specifically deals with AI, saying digital platforms have to take full accountability and cannot escape by saying that these AI models are in the “under-testing stage”.

The Prime Minister told the billionaire philanthropist, “Someone can also misuse my voice to deceive people and such deepfakes can lead to a massive uproar. We need to be informed about the do’s and don’ts on deepfakes.” “I need to think stronger.”
