As Parliament passed the online gaming bill, promotion and regulation of 2025, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said on Thursday that the law would protect the society from the harmful effects of the online money game.

In a post on X, PM Modi said that this law will encourage e-sports and online social games.

“This bill, passed by both houses of Parliament, highlights our commitment to make India a center for gaming, innovation and creativity. It will encourage e-Sports and online social games. Also, it will protect our society from the harmful effects of online money games,” PM Modi said.

The Rajya Sabha on Thursday passed the promotion and regulation of the ‘online gaming bill’ amid protests and gave a slogan by the opposition.

Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnav had shifted the ‘Promotion and Regulation of online gaming bill’ to the Lok Sabha passed in the Rajya Sabha and passing in the Rajya Sabha.

Highlighting the provisions of the bill, Union Minister Ashwani Vaishnav said that it includes three segments, “e-sports, online social gaming and online money gaming”, of which 2/3 will be promoted and encouraged by segments (e-sports and online social gaming).

The Union Minister described the third segment, online money gaming as a “public health risk”.

Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnav on Wednesday explained the objective behind the promotion and regulation of online gaming bills, 2025, highlighting a multi-year engagement process with the gaming industry.

Talking to Annie about the bill, Vaishnav insisted on the government’s efforts in the last three years, where he was “deeply engaged” with the gaming industry.
