Adobe previews new AI video editing features coming to Premiere Pro

Adobe Premiere Pro may soon be getting artificial intelligence (AI)-powered video editing tools, but there’s a catch. There is currently no timetable for when these features will be integrated into the video editing software. The company shared its vision for the platform and revealed that it is actively exploring integrations with third-party AI video generation models such as OpenAI Sora to bring its capabilities into its software. Adobe also confirmed reports that it is developing an AI text-to-video model, saying a new Firefly video model is in development.

The announcement was made through blog post The company highlighted Adobe’s strategy for this year regarding the Premiere Pro platform. Adobe’s new AI tools are “designed to make shots longer, add new objects or remove unwanted ones, and generate missing behind-the-scenes footage,” said Ashley Still, senior vice president and general manager of Creative Cloud at Adobe. Notably, While the company has shared details about the upcoming feature, it hasn’t announced a release date yet.

One AI-driven editing tool being developed is called Generative Extend. According to the company, it can slightly extend the duration of footage by adding extra frames. These new frames will be generated entirely by artificial intelligence and will give editors room to fine-tune their edits.

Adobe also previewed another feature called Generative B-Roll, which can generate video clips with simple text prompts, saving time searching for footage or shooting a B-roll.

Adobe also emphasized that it is exploring cooperation with third-party AI video models such as OpenAI’s Sora, RunwayML, and Pika to expand its plug-in ecosystem and add more capabilities for creators.

It is believed that the software giant could use these models for the generative AI capabilities mentioned above. It can also use its own AI-powered Firefly Video model, which the company officially confirmed is in development.

Apart from this, Adobe Premiere Pro also gets object addition and removal functionality, which allows users to replace moving objects in the shot, remove unwanted items or add items in the background.
