Kolkata, Oct 25 (IANS) RG Kar victim’s father on Saturday reacted to the suicide of a Satara doctor in Maharashtra, saying the accused should be shot in front of the hospital so that such incidents do not happen again.

Speaking to IANS, he said, “What the accused have done is wrong and strict action should be taken against them. Wherever the incident took place, outside the hospital, the accused should be shot dead.”

He said, “A clear message should be given that such actions will not be tolerated and should not be repeated in future. There should be an encounter in this case.”

She also criticized the Women’s Commission for filing the suo motu case, saying, “They don’t do anything, they only come and file cases. They even visited our case, but nothing happened.”

Meanwhile, police in Maharashtra’s Satara district on Saturday arrested an accused in the death of a woman doctor who committed suicide after she was allegedly repeatedly raped by a police officer and pressured by an MP to falsify the medical reports of the accused in the cases.

According to officials, the arrested man has been identified as Prashant Bankar, son of the doctor’s landlord, whose name is mentioned in his four-page suicide note.

The deceased doctor, a native of Beed district, was posted as a medical officer in a government hospital in Phaltan, Satara. On Thursday night, she was found hanging in a hotel room under mysterious circumstances. The shocking thing is that she had written a suicide note on her palm, in which she had named sub-inspectors Gopal Badane and Prashant Bankar, accusing the police officer of rape and Prashant of mental harassment.

After Prashant’s arrest, the police said that he will be produced in the court and his custody will be sought for further investigation. Meanwhile, sub-inspector Badane has been suspended, and a detailed investigation is underway. A case has been registered against both the accused at Phaltan police station. Satara SP Tushar Doshi confirmed that the rape allegations and Prashant’s role are being thoroughly investigated.

The woman doctor who allegedly committed suicide has left behind a detailed four-page suicide note, besides an inked note on the palm of her hand, in which she has stated that a police officer raped her four times and pressurized her to issue fake fitness certificates for persons accused in police cases. Now it has come to light in her note that she was allegedly under pressure not only from police officials but also from a Member of Parliament (MP) and his personal assistants.

She complained to various authorities 21 times, but no action was taken against those who tortured her.

Recalling a particular instance in his note, the doctor said that he had refused to issue the certificate, and two personal assistants of an MP had come to the hospital and made him talk to her over the phone. He said in his note that during that conversation the MP had indirectly threatened him.

His cousin also made similar allegations against the doctor of fudging medical certificates.
