Jammu and Kashmir Bureau of Corruption Bureau (ACB) said on Friday that Patwari Halak Dansal of Jammu arrested a patwari from Jammu to demand a bribe of Rs 20,000.
In a statement issued to the news agency -Kashmir News Observer (KNO), a spokesperson said that a complaint was received to the Bureau of Anti -Kashmir corruption in which it was alleged that public servant Chuni Lal, Patwari Patwar Halak Dansal demanded illegal satisfaction from the complainant to provide a demarcation report.
“Accused Chuni Lal, Patwari, Patwar Pudding Dansel, demanded a bribe of Rs 1,00,000 from the complainant to provide demarcation reports and after negotiations, accused Chuni Lal agreed to establish Rs 75,000 and arranged for Rs 25,000. Only Rs 20,000,” said.
He said, “Since, the complainant did not want to pay the bribe that he approached the ACB to take legal action against the accused public servant under the law,” he said.
On receiving the complaint, a prudent verification was conducted, which was registered and accordingly, a case FIR No. 15/2025 U/S7 was registered in the police station ACB Jammu and investigation to the demand for prevention of Corruption Act, 1988, a case FIR No. 15/2025 U/S7 was registered.
“During the investigation, a trap team was formed under the chairmanship of the Gazetted Rank Officer. The team laid a successful trap and the accused public servant was caught in the red, while in the presence of independent witnesses, the complaint of Rs 20,000 to the complainant to join the complainant in the presence of independent witnesses, accepting the amount of bribe of Rs 20,000 from the complainant. The team said.
ACB said, “In addition, in the presence of independent witnesses and magistrates, discoveries were also made in the office of the accused and in-laws’ house,” ACB said, further investigation of the immediate matter is going on- (KNO)
