A man in Jaipur has hit the headlines for buying a brand new Ather 450 electric scooter using just Rs 10 coins. Tarun Mehta, Chief Executive Officer (CEO), Ather Energy, was impressed by the man’s unique payment method and shared a photo of the proud owner of the e-scooter and the money he paid while purchasing it. In the caption, Mr Mehta also wrote that the man bought the Ather 450 model, which is priced at a little over Rs 1 lakh on the site.
“A new Ather owner bought 450 for himself in Jaipur… all with Rs 10 coins!”. Mr. Mehta wrote while sharing the picture. The image shows a man holding keys to a giant replica of an e-scooter and a few other people standing near him. A table placed in front of the group is covered with many small bags filled with coins.

Mr Mehta shared the post a few days ago and since then it has received over 44,000 views and hundreds of likes. Social media users reacted to the post and made various comments.
One user jokingly asked, “Do they count the coins manually or will they weigh all the coins in total if the weight of each coin remains the same?” “So did the merchant weigh the coins instead of counting them?” asked another.
“Oh my God! How many coins are there,” wondered a third.

Meanwhile, this is not the first time that someone has used a unique payment method to buy a scooter. Last year, a video of an Assam man buying a scooter using a sack full of coins from his savings went viral on social media. MD Saidul Haq, a small shopkeeper from Guwahati, had saved years of hard-earned money to buy his dream two-wheeler. He was saving coins of Rs 1, Rs 2, Rs 5 and Rs 10 for the last 5-6 years.
In 2022, another man in Assam used a sack full of saved coins to buy a scooter. A few years ago, a Russian blogger’s video also went viral when he went to an Apple Store with a bathtub full of coins to buy an iPhone XS. A Facebook user posted a photo of the 2018 incident, in which Apple Store staff members are counting coins brought by blogger Svyatoslav Kovalenko.
