A man was seriously injured on a Brooklyn subway train after he grabbed a gun from a passenger and shot him in the head.according to New York Times (NYT), the incident occurred during rush hour on Thursday evening. The media quoted police transportation chief Michael Kemper as saying that a 32-year-old man confronted a 36-year-old passenger in an “aggressive and provocative” manner after boarding the train at Nostrand Avenue Station. Mr Kemper said what started as a verbal altercation quickly turned physical, with the 36-year-old displaying a razor blade and eventually pulling out a gun.

In the video, posted on social media platform X, a woman can be heard pleading: “Hurry up, there’s a baby here.”
But that didn’t stop the 36-year-old, who pounced on another man, pushed him into a two-seater car and punched him several times.
Other passengers fell to the train floor.
During the confrontation, the 36-year-old passenger pulled a gun from his jacket, but the 32-year-old passenger managed to pull the gun from his body and “fired multiple rounds,” the police chief said.
At least four gunshots are heard in the video.
As the train stopped at the Hoyt-Schermerhorn Station in downtown Brooklyn, commuters poured out of the cars from all directions, the New York Times reported.
Police heard the gunshots and responded immediately. The gunman was arrested before he even set foot on the platform.
Mr. Kemper said the man who was shot was taken to hospital and was undergoing surgery in critical condition.
Police believe the two men were complete strangers.
Mr Kemper added that police had not yet laid charges against the 32-year-old and had not said whether his actions would be considered self-defence.
