A car plows into an anti-government protest in Tel Aviv, Israel, injuring 5 people

Five people were injured on Saturday when a car plowed into a sea of ​​protesters during a massive anti-government rally in Tel Aviv, Israel, local media reported. One protester suffered moderate injuries and others suffered minor injuries.

Police have detained the driver for questioning. Authorities are investigating the motivations behind the driver’s actions and the involvement of passengers, Israel’s i24 news reported.

Meanwhile, Israeli Communications Minister Shlomo Kawhi blamed “left-wing leaders inside and outside the coalition” after a car rammed into a protester.

“Don’t run over protesters. That’s it. Don’t attack the police, that’s it. Don’t throw burning torches at the Prime Minister’s home. That’s it,” Kawhi tweeted in Hebrew.

Opposition leader Yair Lapid condemned the incident, accusing the government of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu of inciting violence and division, i24 News reported.

Israel has been witnessing the country’s largest anti-government protests since last week, demanding new elections and a hostage deal with Hamas, six months after the war ended.

Social media was flooded with videos showing tens of thousands of protesters in Tel Aviv on Saturday. Police dispersed people who had gathered on Arlozorov and Bloch streets as many of them sat on the road, blocking traffic. The Times of Israel reported that an old man was knocked down by a police horse while dispersing demonstrators.

According to the Times of Israel, as many as four people were arrested in connection with the protests.
