A 5.5 magnitude earthquake occurred twice in a month in Hualien, Taiwan

A 5.5-magnitude earthquake struck Taiwan’s eastern county of Hualien on Monday, the island’s weather administration said, with no immediate reports of damage.

The earthquake shook buildings in the capital, Taipei. The Meteorological Administration said the depth of the earthquake was 10 km (6.2 mi).

Earlier this month, a 7.2-magnitude earthquake in Hualien killed at least 14 people and hundreds of aftershocks rocked Taiwan.

Located near Taiwan Junction of two tectonic plates and prone to earthquakes.

A 2016 earthquake in southern Taiwan killed more than 100 people, while a magnitude 7.3 quake in 1999 killed more than 2,000.
