Madonna lights up the city in Rio de Janeiro beach concert: Watch

Madonna lit up Rio de Janeiro on Saturday, May 4, entertaining an audience of approximately 1.6 million in a free beach concert.

The 65-year-old queen of pop performed songs, including Like a prayer, vogue and express yourself For more than two hours, the greatest hits tour that began last year came to an end.

“Rio, we are here in the most beautiful place in the world, with the sea, the mountains, Jesus,” Madonna said, referring to the statue of Christ the Redeemer that sits atop the city’s towering mountain peak.

The crowd appeared in batches, with over three thousand police officers deployed to keep watch around the concert area.

Marking the final stop of Madonna’s Celebration Tour, the concert commemorated her 40 years of dominance on the pop charts.

Before the show, fans were seen dancing and grooving to the pop star’s songs.

Talking about Madonna’s influence, one fan commented: “I’m a mess, I haven’t slept properly, I’ve been listening to Madonna all week.”

While another praised the singer, saying, “Madonna helped me leave the Catholic Church, think about many things, and change my relationship with my family.”
