A 25-year-old woman in Maharashtra’s Raigarh allegedly strangled her two children to elope with her boyfriend, police said on Thursday. Sheetal Bol told police she wanted to live with her partner but felt her two children were an obstacle in her way.
According to police, Sheetal killed her 5-year-old daughter Aaradhya and 3-year-old son Sarthak on March 31 at their house in Kishim, Alibag Tehsil.
When their father Sadanand Bol returned home, he found the two brothers lying unconscious on the bed while his wife was washing dishes outside the house. She told him the children were sleeping, police said.
But after the siblings did not wake up, Sadanand became suspicious and rushed them to the hospital, where doctors declared them dead.
Police were informed of the incident and began investigating. They discovered that the mother of the children was allegedly having an affair with Senat Jadhav. This led to frequent quarrels between her and her husband.
When police questioned her, she gave conflicting statements, according to senior police officer Somnath Gharge. A short time later, she confessed to the crime, they said.
Sheetal told police that she suffocated the two children because they were the reason she couldn’t elope with her boyfriend.
Police have registered a case of murder and arrested her.
