Hollywood star Sydney Sweeney has broken her silence about the backlash over American Eagle Jeans advertisement and admitted that she has been silent on the matter. “Divide has widened”.

Talking to American magazine PeopleSwinney expressed surprise at the reaction. “I was really surprised by the response,” she said. “I did it because I love jeans and I love the brand. I don’t support the views that some people chose to associate with the campaign.
“Many people have given me motives and labels that are not true. Anyone who knows me knows that I am always trying to bring people together. I am against hatred and division.”
He further added, “In the past, my stance has never been to respond to negative or positive press, but recently I have realized that my silence on this issue has only increased the divide, not eliminated it. So I hope this new year will focus more on what connects us, not what divides us.”
The ad, released in July, featured Sweeney saying: “Genes are passed from parents to offspring, often determining traits such as hair color, personality, and even eye color. My jeans are blue.”
In November, Sweeney previously addressed the criticism in an interview gq The magazine said: “I think when I have an issue I want to speak about, people will listen.”
She added, “I did a jeans commercial. I mean, the response was definitely surprising, but I love jeans. I just wear jeans. I literally wear jeans and a T-shirt every day of my life.”

Sweeney also found it “surreal” that US President Donald Trump reacted to the advertisement.
American Eagle defended the campaign in an August Instagram post, clarifying: “Sydney Sweeney Has Great Jeans is always about the jeans. Her jeans. Her story. We’ll continue to celebrate how everyone wears their AE jeans with confidence in their own way. Great jeans look good on everyone.”
