The airline is dealing with a combination
Crew shortages and operational challenges this week led to massive delays and cancellations and affected passenger movement across the country.
Delhi airport issued an advisory saying IndiGo operations were “smoothly resuming” after significant disruptions a day earlier, when over 1,000 flights were cancelled.
“We are happy to share that IndiGo flight operations are now smoothly resuming and coming back to normal… Please check your booking and flight status before leaving home,” the airport said.
The government on Friday (December 5) announced measures to stabilize IndiGo’s operations after massive disruptions. These steps are aimed at easing passenger movement during periods of heavy travel demand.
Meanwhile, SpiceJet expanded its schedule from Mumbai for December 6, adding additional flights on domestic and international routes. The airline said the move was aimed at addressing the increased demand following the cancellation of IndiGo.
Indian Railways has also increased capacity on several routes to meet passenger demand. A total of 116 additional coaches have been deployed in 37 premium trains running on 114 augmented journeys.
Southern Railway increased the highest numbers, followed by Northern Railway, Western Railway, East Central Railway, East Coast Railway, Eastern Railway and Northeast Frontier Railway. Additional coaches include chair car, sleeper, 3AC and 2AC coaches depending on the route.
The Railways also introduced special train services, including:
- Gorakhpur–Anand Vihar Terminal–Gorakhpur Special (05591/05592)
- New Delhi – Martyr Captain Tushar Mahajan Vande Bharat Special (02439/02440)
- New Delhi-Mumbai Central Superfast Special (04002/04001)
- Hazrat Nizamuddin-Thiruvananthapuram Central Superfast Special (04080)
These measures, effective from December 6, are aimed at increasing availability for passengers amid the ongoing aviation disruptions.
