The sports presenter’s foot slipped during live broadcast during ITV’s coverage of the Lionesses at St Mary’s, with Pundit Wright and Anita Asante catching him before he fell.
England won the friendly 2–0 after Woods later confirmed he was ill.
The broadcast featured a shot of the teams practicing on the pitch before an advertising break.
And Wright has now discussed the related incident with Gary Neville and Roy Keane, Jamie Carragher and Jill Scott on The Overlap.
Wright said: “He’s OK. I got a message from him this morning.
“It was worrying at the time but he’s OK. People have been really nice about it. I’m glad he’s OK.”
Scott said: “She said she thought she had the virus but it must have been terrifying to have that happen, even on live TV.”
The group then took a lighter approach to the discussion based on their personal relationship with Woods due to his work with him.
“I’m guessing she’s not the first woman to fall into your arms Ian,” Keane joked. “It’s just your habit.
“That’s fine and that’s all that matters, that’s the most important thing, obviously. You’ll get a knighthood or an award for that, righty.”
Woods thanked Wright, Asante and her colleagues at ITV for “really looking after me”, adding that she was “really embarrassed”.
“Oh my God, it was a little weird,” he said in a statement on social media.
“Sorry to worry everyone, I’m fine, the amazing paramedics at Saints have said it’s probably a virus, just need a bit of rest and hydration.
“I’m really embarrassed by what happened on TV, but thank you very much to my colleagues at ITV who really looked after me tonight.
“And forgive Wrighty and Neets for catching me and again.”
Katie Shanahan was installed as an emergency replacement by ITV, stepping in for Woods after he received medical treatment.
She said: “As you’ve probably noticed we don’t have the wonderful Laura Woods as she’s just been ill but she’s in very good hands so I’m stepping in at late notice.”
