everton Manager david moyes He believes the Toffees earned a hard-fought 1-0 win bournemouth 4-1 defeat at home on Saturday proved newcastle It was just a shock.

England international Jack Grealish’s 78th-minute goal was enough to give Everton their third win in four Premier League games.

Moyes said: “I thought we were probably the better team, but I was a bit worried.

“Our record here at Bournemouth hasn’t been very good, so getting three points here will always be really important and nice if we can get it.

“I thought whoever scored the first goal would win and thankfully we won.

“It is three wins out of four and we have also maintained three clean sheets out of four.

“Yes, we didn’t play well against Newcastle but we won at Old Trafford and coming here today we’ve got three more points.”

Moyes also singled out makeshift right-back James Garner for special praise.

“James Garner did a fantastic job against Antoine Semenyo, who can arguably be as good in wide areas,” the Everton boss said.

“I thought Jimmy handled it very well, didn’t think too much about it and did his job very well.

“He’s in top form, he really is, and I have no problem with it if I put him in the middle of the pitch or if I put him at right-back. He does his job to the best of his ability, so a lot of credit goes to him.”

On a couple of occasions in the first half, Everton goalkeeper Jordan Pickford made smart saves to deny Semenyo and Bournemouth’s Alex Scott headed a header against his own crossbar from a Garner corner.

Thierry Barry missed a great chance to put Everton ahead, before Grealish scored the match winner with a 20-yard strike 12 minutes from time.

The defeat extended Bournemouth’s winless streak to five games and home boss Andoni Ierola admitted he was concerned with their performances.

Ierola said: “I think we were really bad, probably the worst game we’ve played this season.

“We played the game the way Everton wanted to play, slow and without any real chances.

“If you don’t make them defend well they have very good players who can keep the ball.

“I’m particularly worried about today’s game because even though we only took one point against Sunderland and West Ham, we played well.

“In those games we had a lot of chances and we scored goals.

“It is worrying in the sense that now we have Chelsea and Manchester United so we have no schedule and we are in a difficult moment.”
