Srinagar, Nov 9 (IANS) Nine suspects were detained by the Counter-Intelligence Kashmir (CIK) wing of Jammu and Kashmir Police on Sunday in a massive crackdown against online terror in the Valley. This information was given in an official statement. “In a sweeping crackdown on online terror networks, Counter-Intelligence Kashmir (CIK) on Sunday launched coordinated raids across Kashmir, sending a decisive message against extremism and cyber abuse,” the CIK said in a statement. It said that acting on credible intelligence regarding online glorification of terrorism and radicalization of youth, CIK teams targeted 10 specific locations in Srinagar, Kulgam, Baramulla, Shopian and Pulwama. “This strong operation, conducted in collaboration with local police, focuses on alleged individuals misusing social media platforms to incite violence, spread anti-national propaganda and promote communal hatred,” the statement said. The CIK action underscores its commitment to protecting public order and the internal security of the region by rooting out digital threats at their source, the statement said. “Nine suspects, including a woman, have been detained. A cache of evidence, ranging from SIM cards and mobile phones to tablets and a variety of digital devices, has been seized for forensic examination. The recovered material is expected to provide important clues that will lead to further investigation and additional enforcement action,” the statement said. CIK said this massive action in the Valley is the beginning of an intensified fight against online terrorism and illegal digital activity. The statement said more raids and detentions are imminent as authorities are determined to protect the youth of Kashmir from the influence of Pakistan-backed terrorist masters, violent extremism and maintain peace in the valley. Meanwhile, police in Ramban district launched CASO (cordon and search operation) against indigenous people of Jammu and Kashmir and overground workers (OGWs) of terror organizations operating from Pakistan. Police and security forces are carrying out aggressive counter-terrorism operations against terrorists, their OGWs and supporters to destroy the entire ecosystem of terror in the Union Territory. –IANS class/vd
