Srinagar, Oct 29 (IANS) Bollywood actor Mukesh Rishi on Wednesday watched the proceedings of the Jammu and Kashmir Assembly from the Speaker’s Gallery and members cutting across party lines welcomed his presence.
The Assembly warmly welcomed Rishi who was present in the Speaker’s Gallery during the ongoing session.
As soon as Speaker Abdul Rahim Rather announced the actor’s presence in the House, members of all parties welcomed the actor with applause.
Rishi is from Jammu and Kashmir and was born on April 19, 1956 in a Gujjar Chaudhary family of Kathua district.
Raised in Jammu, after graduating from Government College, Sector 11, Chandigarh, and working for two years in Mumbai, Rishi moved to Fiji for work, where he met his future wife, who is of Indo-Fijian descent. His family ran a traditional department store. They have an attractive investment portfolio, which also includes warehouse investments.
She later worked as a model in New Zealand before starting her acting career in India.
An actor and a filmmaker, known for playing villains and supporting roles, he has worked in Hindi, Telugu and other films. His famous Bollywood films include “Gunda” (1998), “Sarfarosh” (1999), and “Koi… Mil Gaya” (2003).
The autumn session of Jammu and Kashmir Assembly will end on October 31. With its conclusion, all top offices of the government including the Chief Minister, his Cabinet colleagues, Chief Secretaries, administrative secretaries and the Director General of Police (DGP) will move to the winter capital Jammu.
The move is called the “Dabur move” and the office will operate from the winter capital Jammu for six months.
The more than a century-and-a-half-old practice of shuttling offices between Srinagar and Jammu was stopped by the Lieutenant Governor in 2021, but the Omar Abdullah-led elected government has reinstated it.
