Hyderabad, Oct 29 (IANS) Train movement was disrupted in Dornakal in Telangana’s Mahabubabad district on Wednesday due to waterlogging on railway tracks due to heavy rains due to the impact of severe cyclone Montha that crossed the Andhra Pradesh coast.
The Guntur-Secunderabad Golconda Express was stopped at Dornakal railway station, while the Mumbai-Bhubaneswar Konark Express and Adilabad-Tirupati Krishna Express were stopped at Mahabubabad railway station.
Meanwhile, the Sainagar Shirdi Express had to be stopped at Kondapalli in Krishna district of Andhra Pradesh.
At least 12 good trains also stopped at various railway stations in Andhra Pradesh.
South Central Railway has already canceled 127 trains and diverted 14 trains due to Cyclone Montha.
SCR on Wednesday announced the cancellation of Secunderabad-Visakhapatnam Express and Howrah-Secunderabad Falaknuma Express, scheduled to depart on October 29 and October 30 respectively.
SCR also announced that Howrah – Secunderabad and Howrah – SMVT Bengaluru will run on the normal route instead of the diverted route announced earlier.
Trains canceled for October 29 include Nanded – Visakhapatnam, Visakhapatnam – Lingampally, Visakhapatnam – Cuddapah and Narasapur – Guntur.
Sanjay Kumar Srivastava, General Manager, South Central Railway, on Tuesday held a review meeting on the safety of train operations and action plan towards preparedness to deal with the cyclone situation.
He held a detailed review meeting with all the divisions, especially the principal heads of Vijayawada and Guntur divisions.
He directed officials to closely monitor the path of the cyclone to take necessary measures. He advised officials to closely liaise with state government officials and NDRF (National Disaster Response Force) teams to monitor the condition of railway affected tanks in the section to ensure safety of track and train operations.
He also directed to ensure monsoon patrolling of tracks in potentially affected sections. Stationary watchmen were also deployed at all sensitive bridges and locations to obtain real-time information.
