Agartala, Oct 28 (IANS) Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha on Tuesday said that, in line with the digital age, the state government is continuously intensifying its efforts to build a smart and digital state to ensure ease of living, as envisioned by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Inaugurating Wi-Fi facilities in 11 more government colleges under the second phase and launching the ‘Mukhyamantri Yuva Yogyakarta Yojana’ for the academic year 2024-25, the Chief Minister said that everyone needs to move forward in various fields using Artificial Intelligence and Internet and technology should be used for the welfare and positive development of the people.

Wi-Fi services have already been started in 19 government colleges across the state so that students can effectively use online technology for educational purposes.

With the addition of 11 more colleges on Tuesday, this facility has now become available in a total of 30 institutions.

Saha said, “The Wi-Fi system will provide many benefits in the field of technology and will greatly benefit the students. The Prime Minister has given special importance to technology. The youth community (18 to 35 years of age) constitutes about 60 to 65 percent of the total population of India, which is a matter of pride for us, because no other country in the world has such a large youth population.”

He said that youth will play a special role in realizing the Prime Minister’s dream of building a developed India by 2047. The Chief Minister also said that Tripura is now progressing in all aspects.

He said, “Recently, Tripura was declared the third fully literate state in the country. This recognition was given as per UNESCO guidelines. Tripura has achieved this position after Goa and Mizoram. At present, there is dependence on technology in every sector.”

Saha further informed that under the ‘Mukhyamantri Yuva Yogyakarta Yojana’, every student studying in the final year of college is provided Rs 5,000 to purchase a smartphone.

“Now that Wi-Fi facilities have started in colleges, students will not have to spend their money on internet. The state government has also introduced a start-up policy,” he said.

The Chief Minister said investors from outside the state are showing interest in it and a private telecom service operator has been allotted space to build a data centre.

Referring to the importance of technology in healthcare, Saha, himself a dental surgeon, said Artificial Intelligence and Internet should be used to advance various fields.

He said, “A lot of good work is being done in the field of medical services and agriculture. Today platforms like Facebook, Instagram and WhatsApp are all dependent on technology. The best services should be provided to the people through technology. However, technology should always be used for positive purposes.”

The Chief Minister also stressed the importance of installing more mobile towers in the interior areas of the state. Finance and Information Technology Minister Pranajit Singha Roy, Higher Education Minister Kishore Barman, IT Department Secretary Kiran Gitte and other senior officials were present at the event.
