The new Sierra will join Tata’s growing SUV portfolio, which currently includes ICE models like the Punch, Nexon, CurveV, Harrier and Safari and EVs like the Punch.EV, Nexon.EV, CurveV.EV and Harrier.EV.
The SUV will be available with petrol, diesel and electric powertrains. The petrol lineup may come with Tata’s new 1.5-litre turbocharged direct-injection (TGDI) engine, which was first showcased at the 2023 Auto Expo, along with a naturally aspirated version for the lower variants.
The Curve is also expected to get a 1.5-litre diesel engine. Details of the Sierra EV’s battery and range have not been revealed yet.
Taking inspiration from the original 1991 Sierra, the new model combines classic elements such as curved rear windows with modern styling. The SUV comes with LED lightbar, flush door handles, 19-inch alloy wheels and a wraparound rear glass section.
Inside, the Sierra is expected to feature a triple-screen setup – consisting of a digital instrument cluster, central touchscreen and passenger display – each measuring around 12.3 inches.
Other highlights may include a panoramic sunroof, dual-zone climate control, ventilated front seats, ambient lighting and a wireless charger. On the safety front, the SUV is likely to offer six airbags, a 360-degree camera, electronic stability control and Level 2 ADAS.
The production version of the Sierra will be unveiled on November 15 ahead of its market launch. Once launched, the Tata Sierra will compete with the likes of Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos, Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara, Honda Elevate, MG Hector and Mahindra Thar Rocks in the midsize SUV segment.
