Kangana On Monday, she appeared before a magistrate in Punjab’s Bathinda, produced a bail bond and apologized for the ‘misunderstanding’ caused by her 2021 tweet about the farmers’ protest. She clarified that she did not intend to specifically target 81-year-old Kaur and that she “respects every ‘mata’,” whether they are from Punjab or Himachal.
According to the Indian Express, Ranaut said, “Every mother, whether from Punjab or Himachal, is respectful to me. Whatever misunderstanding happened with Mahinder (Kaur) ji’s family, I explained to Mata ji through her husband how she was a victim of misunderstanding.”
When asked if she admitted to making a mistake, Ranaut claimed that if someone carefully investigated the issue, they would have done nothing wrong. The actress said, “There was a retweet that was used as a meme. I had nothing to do with it.”
Kangana further expressed regret for the ‘misunderstanding’ caused by the post.
In a December 2020 social media post, she allegedly misidentified Mahinder Kaur as Bilkis Bano (who made headlines during the 2020 Shaheen Bagh protests) and claimed that elderly women were available for ₹100 at farmers’ protests.

During the hearing, Ranaut insisted that her post was a retweet of a meme and that she did not add any specific phrase with the intention of defaming anyone.
Reiterating that everything was ‘blown out of proportion’, he claimed that he apologized to Kaur’s husband in the court on behalf of the complainant, who was unable to attend due to illness.
However, Mahinder Kaur’s husband, Labh Singh, informed the court that he and the community would consider the apology before deciding whether or not to accept it.
He stressed that the family had planned to take the case forward and that the apology had been delayed.
Kangana’s request for permanent exemption from personal appearance will be considered by the court in the next hearing on November 24. High courts had previously refused his attempts to stop the trial or make an appearance on the video, ruling that the tweet was more than just a repost.
