Mumbai, Oct 27 (IANS) Amid the controversy over vote theft and irregularities in the voter list, Shiv Sena UBT chief Uddhav Thackeray on Monday announced that a case will be filed against the Election Commissioner after the change of government at the Center and the Election Commission will be taken to court.
In his fiery speech at the party’s scheduled meeting ahead of the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation elections, Thackeray strongly criticized the Election Commission over irregularities in voter lists in the state and across the country and the issue of fake voters.
“Everyone is equal before the law. If we commit any crime and are caught within the ambit of the law, the Election Commissioner should also be punished. There is still time for the next Lok Sabha. When our government comes to power, we will file a case against the Election Commissioner and bring him before the court,” he warned.
“There is still suspicion that EVMs are being tampered with; that suspicion has not gone away. The Election Commission has now announced that VVPATs will not be used in local and civic body elections in Maharashtra. Then why should elections be held? Fake voters will vote and go away, and the Election Commission will decide as it wants? And if we do anything, will the law be brought against us? Then I say that a case should also be registered against the Election Commissioner, who conducts the elections. Is the commissioner. should also be punished,” Thackeray expressed.
He further said, ‘I again tell the Election Commission that without correcting the mistakes you will not be able to conduct elections.’
Thackeray also hinted at an alliance between Shiv Sena UBT and Raj Thackeray-led Maharashtra Navnirman Sena during the upcoming Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation elections.
He said, “Now elections are coming, they will raise Hindu Muslim issue. We fight. We quarrel. At that time, they (BJP) steal votes. When they do politics on Hindus and Muslims, we should understand that elections are coming.”
He also urged the party workers to check the voter list booth-by-booth.
