New Delhi, Oct 27 (IANS) President Draupadi Murmu attended the Chhath Puja celebrations at the President’s Estate, where devotees offered Arghya to the setting sun. The President prayed for the well-being and prosperity of fellow citizens, an official said on Monday.

Earlier in the day, Delhi Lieutenant Governor VK Saxena met the President and greeted him on the occasion of Chhath, and Chief Minister Rekha Gupta offered prayers and visited several ghats to greet devotees.

In a post on Twitter, LG Saxena said, “Today I paid a courtesy call on the Honorable President and wished him a very happy Diwali and Chhath. As always, his company was extremely inspiring.”

In a separate programme, Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta offered Chhath prayers.

In a message on Twitter, CM Gupta said, “Heartiest greetings to all of you on the ‘Arghya’ of the evening of the great festival of Chhath. Today, while offering Arghya to the setting sun on the banks of Yamuna in Sonia Vihar, it has been wished that the light of happiness, prosperity and progress always remains in the life of every Delhiite.”

He said, “This festival is not just about faith, but a celebration of the discipline, devotion and folk culture that has made Delhi a symbol of unity in diversity and modernity in tradition.”

The Chief Minister said, “Today the land, Ghats and Yamuna of Delhi are all colored in the devotion of Chhath. With the immense grace of Chhath Maiya, may Delhi always remain clean, safe and prosperous, may the flame of faith burn in every house and the flame of new hope burn in every heart.”
