New Delhi: Samajwadi Party (SP) on Monday launched a scathing attack on Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath after the announcement of changing the name of Mustafabad to Kabirdham and accused the BJP government of indulging in divisive politics instead of focusing on governance and public welfare.
Reacting to the move, SP spokesperson Fakhrul Hasan Chand said, “Bharatiya Janata Party keeps doing politics of name change, but Samajwadi Party believes that the PDA (Backward, Dalit, Minority) government is going to change. There is a government in Uttar Pradesh which has completely failed on the issue of law and order. This government can neither provide fertilizers to the farmers, nor can it provide security to the people. It can provide security to women.” vulnerable. Specifically reacting to Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath’s comment that “earlier money was used for boundaries of cemeteries,” Hasan said, “During the Samajwadi Party government, both crematoriums and cemeteries were developed, and money was spent on both equally. Earlier in the day, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath announced that Mustafabad in Lakhimpur Kheri district will now be known as Kabirdham. The announcement was made during his visit to Kabirdham Ashram in Mustafabad, where he participated in a three-day apparition program of Sant Asanga Dev Maharaj.
Addressing a large gathering, the Chief Minister said that since 2014, funds have been allocated for the development of all religious places, whereas earlier, such funds were mainly used for cemeteries. Yogi said, “Be it Kashi, Ayodhya, Kushinagar, Naimisharanya, Shuktirtha, Mathura, Vrindavan, Barsana, Gokul, Baldev or Govardhan, funds have been provided for development works there. But earlier this money used to go elsewhere, to build boundaries around cemeteries.”
He further said, “When I came here, I asked about this village. I was told that its name is Mustafabad. When I asked how many Muslims live here, they said not even one. Still the name remained Mustafabad. I said that this name should be changed to Kabirdham.”
The name change has sparked a fresh political controversy in Uttar Pradesh, with the opposition accusing the BJP of using religious sentiments to divert attention from the failures of governance.
