Bengaluru, October 27 (IANS) Amid the ongoing leadership dispute in Karnataka, Karnataka Home Minister G. Parameshwara has said he would be happy if senior party leader and Food, Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs Minister KH Muniyappa, who hails from the Dalit community, becomes the chief minister.
Speaking to reporters in Bengaluru on Monday, Parameshwara said that seven-time MP Muniyappa is an efficient leader.
“Muniyappa has been elected MP from the Congress party seven times. Winning seven times is not easy. He is a senior leader and former Union minister. He is efficient. If Muniyappa is made the chief minister, I will be happy.”
Parameshwara said, “Since we are from the same community, I will naturally be happy if our community gets the opportunity. The community which has been suppressed and exploited for a long time – if he comes to power, won’t we be happy? In this context, Muniyappa is efficient, and if he is made the Chief Minister, I will be happy.”
Parmeshwar also comes from the Dalit community.
Asked about the possibility of a Cabinet reshuffle, Parameshwara said, “I don’t know anything about it because we can’t give statements on decisions that are with the high command. We must wait for their decision. Making statements in the media will only create confusion. Has anyone from the high command said anything? We have absolutely no information from them.”
“We can react only when there is any communication from the high command regarding cabinet reshuffle, leadership change or other developments. Any statement made by us has no significance unless they come from the high command,” he said.
“No matter who makes such statements, unless they come from the high command, they have no significance,” he reiterated.
Parameshwara said, “The high command will consider everything and take decisions accordingly. Earlier, there were talks about power-sharing; now there is talk of a cabinet reshuffle. Such daily confusions only affect governance. If governance has to be improved, this has to stop and focus on administration.”
“There have been floods in North Karnataka and Bengaluru. There are also concerns about road infrastructure and the problem of potholes. If we want to address these grievances, we need to focus more on governance,” he said.
Speaking about various statements of Congress leaders on the cabinet reshuffle and leadership, Parameshwara said, “You all know who takes decisions in the Congress party. If some people in Karnataka make statements in this regard, it will not make any difference. The high command will think and analyse. There are elections in Bihar now; after that the high command will take appropriate action if needed.”
These statements have gained importance amid the leadership dispute within the ruling Congress party. Recently, Chief Minister Siddaramaiah’s son and MLC Yatindra Siddaramaiah had courted controversy by projecting PWD minister Satish Jarkiholi as CM Siddaramaiah’s successor.
