Federal Aviation Administration The above flights are departing Los Angeles International Airport Stopped on Sunday morning due to lack of staff Southern California Air transport facility.

The FAA issued a temporary ground stop at one of the world’s busiest airports shortly after U.S. Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy predicted that travelers would face more flight delays and cancellations in the coming days as the nation’s air traffic controllers work without pay during the federal government shutdown.

during an appearance on fox news Speaking on the program “Sunday Morning Futures”, Duffy said more controllers were falling ill as money worries add to the stress of an already challenging job.

He said, “Just yesterday, … we had 22 staffing triggers. That’s one of the most we’ve seen in the system since the shutdown began. And it’s a sign that controllers are getting weaker.”

Planes bound for Los Angeles were grounded at their originating airports beginning at 11:42 a.m. Eastern time, causing delays of an average of an hour and 40 minutes, the FAA said. The agency said it expected to lift the ground stop at 1:30 p.m. Eastern time, but restrictions to traffic at LAX could continue.

Staffing shortages disrupted takeoffs and arrivals at Newark Liberty International Airport and Tateboro Airport and Southwest on Sunday. Florida International Airport in Fort Myers, Florida, according to the FAA.
