No casualties or injuries were reported in the incident, officials said, adding that the fire was brought under control within an hour.
According to the police, the incident took place around 4:45 am when a 44-seater private sleeper bus, carrying 39 passengers, going from Delhi to Gonda via Lucknow, suddenly caught fire about 500 meters before the toll plaza.
Officials said that after receiving the information, police team and fire brigade reached the spot and all the passengers were evacuated safely. No one was trapped inside the bus.
According to police, preliminary information from bus driver Jagat Singh suggests that the fire broke out in one wheel due to unknown reasons, which quickly spread to the rest of the vehicle.
He said that later the bus was removed from the road and traffic became normal. Officials said the bus owner arranged for an alternative vehicle to ensure that all passengers continued their journey.
