Kolkata, Oct 26 (IANS) Cyclone Montha will not have a direct impact on West Bengal, but heavy rains are likely from Monday, the Meteorological (Meteorological) office said on Sunday.
Due to the effect of the system, there will be rain in the districts of South Bengal including Kolkata.
According to a special bulletin from the weather office, the cyclone is likely to hit Andhra Pradesh coast between Machilipatnam and Kalingapatam near Kakinada region as a severe cyclonic storm on Tuesday evening or night.
The maximum wind speed at the time of landslide can be 90-100 kilometers per hour. The Meteorological Department said that the wind speed can reach 110 kilometers per hour.
Meteorological Department official Saurish Banerjee said that although there will be no direct impact of the cyclone on the state, the sea will remain rough off the Bengal coast from October 28 to 30. There is a possibility of strong winds at a speed of 35-45 kilometers per hour. The speed of strong winds can reach 55 kilometers per hour.
Due to rough sea, fishermen in Bengal have been advised not to venture into the sea from October 28 to 30, the official said. Those who are in the deep sea have been asked to return by Monday (October 27).
“On Monday, light thundershowers are very likely at one or two places over South 24 Parganas, Jhargram, East Midnapore and West Midnapore districts. On Tuesday, heavy rains are very likely at a few places over South 24 Parganas and East Midnapore districts. Light to moderate rain with thunderstorms is very likely at a few places over the remaining South Bengal districts,” the official said.
Apart from this, light to moderate rain with thunderstorm is likely at most places over North 24 Parganas, South 24 Parganas, Howrah, Hooghly, Jhargram, East Midnapore, West Midnapore and Kolkata on Wednesday. There is a possibility of light to moderate rain with thunderstorm in all the districts of South Bengal on Thursday. There is a possibility of light to moderate rain with thunderstorm in most areas of all the districts on Friday.
Meanwhile, there is less possibility of storm in North Bengal. However, the amount of rain will gradually increase in the next seven days.
The maximum temperature in Kolkata on Saturday was 32.9 degrees Celsius, which is 1.2 degrees above normal. The minimum temperature on Sunday was 25.5 degrees Celsius, which is 2.5 degrees Celsius above normal.
