Someone was shot inside a downtown library in the Texas state capital city on Saturday, police said, prompting emergency vehicles and personnel to converge on the building and issuing a shelter-in-place order. A suspect was later taken into custody from another part of the city.
The shooting victim was taken to a local hospital, where he was listed in serious but stable condition Saturday afternoon Austin The police department said.
Assistant Police Chief Lee Rogers said at a media briefing that shortly after noon, Austin’s 911 system received a report of shots fired at the Austin Central Library.
Police said a suspect left the scene before officers arrived, but the man was later located and taken into custody in the city’s South Austin area around 1:25 p.m. Rogers said there is not much information about the suspect or specifically where in the library the shooting occurred. Later the order to provide shelter in place was lifted.
“This appears to be an isolated incident, not an active shooter situation,” Rogers said. He said the incident involved one suspect and one victim.
