Brian Mbumo’s two goals helped Manchester United to their third consecutive win as they escaped the horror of defeating a bogey team in the final minutes. brighton 4-2.

The Seagulls had won six of their previous seven Premier League meetings with the Red Devils and arrived in the North-West looking for a fourth consecutive Old Trafford win.

But United eventually overcame their Brighton hoodoo with a 4–2 victory, with Mbuemo’s goals following efforts from Matheus Cunha and casemiro As they built on last weekend’s win at Liverpool.

That win at Anfield saw Ruben Amorim celebrate back-to-back league wins for the first time since taking charge last November, taking them up to fourth.

Cunha opened his United account with a 20-yard strike, which Casemiro connected with a deflected effort, before Mbuyomo made it 3–0 after the break.

But the Red Devils rarely have things the easy way. An in-form Danny Welbeck free-kick and a stoppage-time header from teenage substitute Charalampos Kostoulas had the hosts floundering, but Mbumo collected the ball at the death.

co-owner sir jim ratcliffe were present for a match which United started on the front foot with the captain bruno fernandes Got the nod barely 30 seconds into his 300th appearance for the club.

Brighton boss Fabian Herzeler complained that Fernandes had fouled former United striker Welbeck, leading to an even higher appeal against referee Anthony Taylor.

Amad Diallo fell in the box after a challenge from Maxime De Cuyper, but VAR Michael Oliver agreed that the full-back had played the ball.

Cunha had a shot saved as the game wore on and Old Trafford were further angrier when Lewis Dunk fouled Mbumo in the box – leaving them disappointed after taking the lead in the 24th minute.

Cunha kept his composure after some struggling play, took a touch on the edge of the box and sent a precise right-footed effort beyond Bart Verbruggen.

In the 34th minute, Brighton fell further behind. Luke Shaw’s pressure was noticeable from the start, and he cut out Jan-Paul van Hecke’s pass to Georginio Rutter. The ball passed to Casemiro, whose long-range strike hit Yassin Ayari and wrong-footed Verbruggen.

Dunk and Benjamin Cesco missed chances as the first half ended, with Fernandes drawing a point-blank stop from the Brighton goalkeeper three minutes after half-time.

Sene Lammens’ fingers denied Yankuba Minteh – an intervention missed by the officials – before United made another intervention, with Cesko palmed away.

United won the ball and Cesco played in Mbumo, who fired a low shot through Dunk’s legs and past Verbruggen at his near post in front of the Stretford End in the 61st minute.

Rutter observed that claims of foul by Shaw in the build-up were ignored, which was soon replaced by a clear knock-on.

Only a smart save from Verbruggen prevented Mbumo adding another, before newly introduced Patrick Dorgu faced a VAR investigation for a possible red card.

The substitute tackled Minteh as he tried to stop him from scoring but escaped with a booking, although he could not escape punishment as Welbeck converted the resulting free-kick in the 74th minute.

Lammens could have done better with that try but prevented Tommy Watson from scoring another try soon after.

The United goalkeeper blocked Ferdi Kadioglu’s audacious effort as the clock wound down, but he was unable to prevent Kostoula reducing the deficit in stoppage time as he glanced a James Milner corner.

Fernandes was denied by another Verbruggen stop and then cleverly fired a low Ayden Haven pass, which Mbeumo continued to beat home to calm the nerves.
