Michael Jordan’s story proved to be true!

In case you missed it, Michael Jordan returned to the NBA on NBC a few days ago as the league kicked off its new season.

I’ll forgive you if you missed seeing it because most of us don’t watch the NBA anymore.

I loved the NBA, I watched almost all the playoffs and finals.

We were spoiled when we had Michael Jordan, who was obviously a once-in-a-generation talent, but then we got another once-in-a-generation talent with Kobe Bryant.

Truly golden years.

But now the league is dysfunctional and obviously completely fake, compromised by gambling…but if there’s one thing that can draw people back, it’s Michael Jordan.

Sadly he hasn’t been fit and playing, but he returned to the NBA on NBC for an interview and it was as good as expected.

In any other context with any other person, I’d probably be criticizing it here because it was just a taped interview and not what we were led to believe, which was Mike joining the other commentators for the half time show and breaking down the current game.

We didn’t get it, but because it’s Michael Jordan and because he’s so authentic, it was still amazing somehow!

Here he is describing his love for the game and how he wishes he could take a magic pill that would allow him to wear shorts again and go out and play:

But here’s the clip I really wanted to show you.

The interviewer asks Mike when was the last time he shot a basketball, and Mike says he hasn’t touched a basketball in years, maybe decades – and then he proceeds to tell a story about how he was living in a rental house and the owner’s kids asked him if he’d shoot free throws… and it probably ends the same way the classic ends with Michael Jordan.

Have you ever picked up a ball and shot it?

I haven’t picked up a ball for many years.

No, let’s go. Just like that, go ahead—there must be a circle somewhere in your place.

You don’t see a circle anywhere here, right?

I, not me. But seriously – there’s a reason, there’s a reason, there’s a reason. When was the last time you picked up a basketball and shot it?

I was in the Ryder Cup. And I, uh, rented a house from the owner.

Sure.

He came to take pictures. He had grandchildren. And I met and greeted them and thanked them for letting me stay in the house, and they had a basketball court.

He says, “I want you to shoot a free throw.”

I said, “Really?”

Now, I have already paid for the house.

Correct.

This guy was like—he has to meet me. So, when I stepped up to shoot free throws, it was the most nervous I’ve been in years.

Stop it.

Over the years.

Stop it, let’s go.

And that’s because those kids heard stories from their parents about what I did 30 years ago.

Correct.

So, their expectation is 30 years ago, and I haven’t touched a basketball.

I hope you gave it a whirl.

Absolutely.

I got the most satisfaction – it made my whole week, that I could make that kid happy.

Don’t know if I can.

Mike still has magic!

The thing that made him so special and so likable, that’s what Kobe had….

Actually three things…

A: They are each authentic, nothing is fake of any kind.

Two: They both just love sports. True love for the game, not fame or money but the game. They love this game and want to master it.

Three: They love their fans and they know that the fans are the reason they get to play this game, so they always want to make sure that they never let the fans down. Mike and Kobe would famously play Hurts as often as possible, because they knew that kids and fans would come to that game and even though it’s one of 82 games for Mike and Kobe, it’s probably the only game that kid or that fan would ever come, and they never wanted to disappoint. Really special.

And the story that Mike told in the clip above demonstrates all 3 of those things perfectly.

So much so, in fact, that a lot of people started claiming that it was fake, just made up for the interview.

The only problem with that?

Those people don’t understand #1 above…

I can understand why you might go there, because it’s been nothing but fake and cheap the last 10 years with LeBron, but Mike doesn’t do fake and cheap.

Mike is the real deal.

And then this video surfaced today in full that proves the story is 100% true – as we knew all along:

Winners are winners and sports recognize sports, and the things that make people love Michael Jordan and Kobe Bryant are the same reasons people love Donald Trump.

We should enjoy every minute of it while we have it because we won’t get another one for a very long time.

Kind of like when we had Michael Jordan and Kobe Bryant in the NBA and we thought it would always be that way. And it wasn’t. After those two retired we got an era of terrible basketball, unsuccessful and unwatchable gameplay, and I haven’t watched the NBA in years.

Eventually the same will happen with politics, but not now.

No, we have the real treasure now.

We essentially have Batman – when he’s not busy ending another war, freeing hostages, and literally bringing peace to the Middle East, he’s standing in a room full of the most powerful world leaders from almost every country and he decides to take the opportunity to tell them that there are two world leaders he doesn’t like at all.

Totally crazy man and I loved every second of it!
