liverpool head coach Arne Slott insists the last thing he is worried about is Mohamed Salah ending his goal drought.
egypt The international has not found the net in his last six matches for the club and looks like he is missing his usual edge.
He has only three goals this season, one of them a penalty, and he was limited to a 16-minute substitute appearance in midweek Champions League victory over eintracht frankfurt,
However, his output has declined since March with just five goals in 23 matches.
Wednesday’s win ended Liverpool’s worst run of results since 2016 and whether that was partly a result of Salah’s form or the other way around remains a matter of debate, but Slote is in no doubt.
“I don’t know if it’s acrimony or not. It’s very difficult, I can give a few reasons I’m not sure about,” the Reds boss said.
“Normally in football players miss chances and Mo is a human being. We are not used to him missing chances, let alone a few in a row, but things like that can happen.
“If you’re 3-1 up it’s easier to finish a chance than if you’re 1-0 down but maybe that’s not true for him.
“But the main thing is that Mo has always scored goals for our club and the last thing I am worried about is Mo starting to score goals again.
“That is what he has done throughout his life and I expect him to do the same for our club in the coming weeks and months.”
The influx of new signings worth £450 million in the summer has caused some teething problems and Salah has been as much a victim of it as anyone else.
With Trent Alexander-Arnold leaving to Real Madrid in the summer due to injuries, Slot has already used three different right-backs, including midfielder Dominik Szoboszlai.
“I think (Salah) has often been in promising positions to score goals, but maybe even more so with Trent – I don’t know,” the Dutchman said.
“But in general for every player, if there are some changes in your team during the summer everyone has to find new connections again.
“Mo is no exception to that and it may have something to do with it.
“In an ideal world you play the same team every game, but that’s not realistic for a team that plays every three days. Even if you wanted to, it’s not possible because Jeremy Frimpong has been in and out with injuries at times, Connor Bradley has also had injuries, let alone (Alexis) McAllister missed pre-season and Alex (Isaac) missed doing the same. Went.”
Slote and Salah hope Saturday evening’s trip to Brentford can prove to be a turning point.
The Bees are one of the 33-year-old forward’s favorite opponents, scoring six times in seven matches.
Frimpong and goalkeeper Alisson Becker are certain to miss the match due to hamstring injuries, while Slote is awaiting updates on Isak, who suffered a groin problem in midweek, and midfielder Ryan Gravenberch, who missed the trip to Germany with an ankle injury.
