New Delhi, Oct 24 (IANS) Border Roads Organization (BRO) Project Arunank on Friday celebrated its 18th raising day at Naharlagun in Arunachal Pradesh, during which special welfare measures were launched for casual wage labourers, a Defense Ministry official said.

A motorable campaign was also organized on the Naharlagun-Zoram Top-Sangram-Zero-Naharlagun route to promote road connectivity and safety awareness along with other activities marking 17 years of dedicated service of the project in the challenging terrain.

Special welfare measures initiated for casual wage laborers include better shelter, protective clothing and regular health camps in recognition of their invaluable contribution to the mission of BRO, the official said in a statement.

Since its inception on October 24, 2008, the project has constructed and maintained more than 696 km of roads and 1.18 km of major bridges, providing vital connectivity to the remote valleys of Arunachal Pradesh and further afield while meeting the operational requirements of the armed forces, the ministry said.

It said one of the landmark achievements of the project was the completion of the 278 km long Hapoli-Sarali-Huri Road, which connects one of the most remote areas of Kurung Kumey district for the first time since independence.

Project Arunanka has also adopted innovative and sustainable technologies such as Steel Slag, Cut-and-Cover Tunnel, Geo Cells, Plastic Sheets, GGBFS Concrete and Gabion Walls, thereby enhancing the durability and environmental sustainability of the road infrastructure in the region.

Among the major milestones of the project, Hapoli-Sarali-Huri Road was upgraded to NHDL standards in 2020, followed by double-laning of Kimin-Potin Road in 2021.

The statement said connectivity up to Maza, the last border along the Line of Actual Control, was successfully established on December 28, 2022.

It said the inauguration of the TCC-Maza Road is now scheduled for November, with the completion of the TCC-Taksingh Road earlier this year.

The ministry said the Huri-Tapa and Taksing Ghora Camp-Lung OP roads are on track to be completed by the end of 2025 under mission-mode execution, strengthening the project’s commitment to timely and strategic development.
