Neutrogena Makeup Remover Face Wipes Remembered that In several states over concerns about a rare bacteria.

There are few things more gratifying than wiping off your makeup after a long day, but a recent memory may make you think twice about your nighttime skin care routine.

Neutrogena owner Kenview last month recalled more than 1,000 cases of the cosmetic brand’s Makeup Remover Ultra-Soft Cleansing Towelettes.

The recall came after Kenview learned that makeup wipes tested positive for Pluralibacter gergoviae.

According to MicroChem Laboratories, a company that specializes in testing disinfectants, Pluralibacter gergoviae is an uncommon pathogen most commonly associated with infections in immunocompromised people staying in hospital. But the company says it has been involved in several cosmetic product recalls.

“This bacteria is resistant to parabens, a common antimicrobial agent in cosmetics,” MicroChem Laboratories writes in its article. website,

Earlier this month, the Food and Drug Administration classified the recall as Category II, meaning use of the product “may cause temporary or medically reversible adverse health consequences or where the likelihood of serious adverse health consequences is remote.”

The recalled product was distributed in Texas, South Carolina, Georgia, and Florida.
