Aizawl, Oct 23 (IANS) Union Parliamentary and Minority Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju on Thursday said the Prime Minister Narendra Modi-led central government is extending full support to the Mizoram government and added that if the BJP candidate wins the Dampa assembly bypoll, the state’s development will further accelerate.
Rijiju, BJP’s Lok Sabha member from Arunachal Pradesh, has been campaigning in favor of saffron party candidate Lalhamangaiha from Dampa Assembly seat since Wednesday.
Addressing a gathering organized in connection with the Dampa by-election campaign at Reik community hall in Mamit district, the senior BJP leader urged people to vote for the party candidate in the by-election to be held on November 11.
He said that the people of Mizoram wholeheartedly acknowledge the commitment, contribution and support of Prime Minister Narendra Modi in making Mizoram and the entire Northeast a vibrant and prosperous region.
The Union Minister reiterated the commitment of the Central Government to establish direct connectivity between Delhi and rural areas of Mizoram and the North-Eastern region.
He also stressed the need for optimum utilization of Mizoram’s potential and resources for the development and welfare of the state.
Highlighting the industrious spirit of the Mizo community and the importance of peace, Rijiju said he had received several memorandums demanding construction of artificial turf fields, new link roads to various villages and a direct road between Riek and Aizawl airport.
Recalling some of the previous initiatives for the benefit of the Mizo people, the minister said a special cell was set up in the Delhi Police to assist people from northeastern states, including Mizoram, living in the national capital.

Mizoram BJP President K. Beichua, party state vice president JB Rulchinga, BJP MLA K. Hramo and other party leaders were with Rijiju during the campaign.
The Union Minister also addressed an election meeting at West Pheleng in Mamit district on Wednesday. Apart from the BJP candidate, ruling Zoram People’s Movement (ZPM) candidate Vanlalsailova, a prominent Mizo singer and preacher, Mizo National Front (MNF) candidate R. Lalthangliana, Congress’s John Rotluangliana and Mizoram People’s Conference (MPC) candidate K. Zhammingthanga is also contesting the by-election to be held on November 11. Five-cornered fight.
Before the election schedule was announced by the Election Commission on October 6, both the ruling and opposition parties had already announced their candidates and started their campaigns in this politically important constituency. The last date for withdrawal of candidature is 24 October.
