Bengaluru, Oct 23 (IANS) Reacting to minister Priyank Kharge’s statement that JD-S has ‘saffronized itself for power’, Union Heavy Industries and Steel Minister HD Kumaraswamy on Thursday claimed that Congress has come to his doorstep for power.

“Did he not know earlier that I had formed the government with the BJP?” He said while talking to the media in Bengaluru.

He advised Kharge to stop “petty politics” and instead focus on floods in his native Kalaburagi district.

“In 2018, Congress came to our doorstep for power. He should ask his father what really happened then and learn about it. Instead of getting involved in politics in Bengaluru, let him focus on what is happening in his district.”

He said that earlier also he had criticized RSS, but what have the Congress leaders themselves done?

“People gave 136 seats to Congress. Still they do not listen to people’s problems. In Kalaburagi, people are on the streets and farmers are in trouble. What have you done?” He said.

Claiming that his party does not beg for power from anyone, he reiterated his claim that it is the Congress which comes to JD-S whenever it needs power.

“Everyone knows who the Congress has backstabbed. Don’t you know who they have removed from power and how many people’s political careers they have ruined?” he claimed.

The Union Minister said that Charan Singh was not allowed to participate in the Parliament session. “How many leaders, including Chandrashekhar, were sacrificed? Their political careers were destroyed. Similarly, it was the Congress that destroyed Deve Gowda’s political future. Should I learn politics from such people?”

Responding in Bengaluru on the issue of changing the state president of JD-S, he said that there is no discussion within the party regarding changing the state president. This matter has not come up for discussion.

On Yatindra Siddaramaiah’s statement on change of leadership, he said that there is no need to discuss the developments in his party.

On the reconstitution of the core committee, he said, “Our party has already held a meeting on this. We have decided to form a committee for the party organization regarding the core committee and corporation elections. A decision on this will be taken in the coming days.”

On CM Siddaramaiah’s statement that the Center is not giving adequate grants to the state, Kumaraswamy said: “For 50 years, the Congress party single-handedly ruled the country.

After independence, people elected Congress MPs in all 28 constituencies. At that time, Congress was in power both at the Center and in the state. Then what did those MPs bring?” The minister asked the question.

Kumaraswamy said, “When his party was in power at the Center and the state, what did he bring? How much money did Karnataka get at that time? What irrigation problems did he solve? What funds did he bring for development? Instead of discussing about us, he himself should sit and discuss these things.”
