Mumbai, October 23 (IANS) Uddhav Thackeray and Raj Thackeray came together once again on Thursday on the occasion of Bhai Dooj.

Both the cousins went to their sister Jaywanti Thackeray Deshpande’s house to celebrate Bhai Dooj. The Thackeray family reunion took place at the Bildarch Daffodil building in Dadar.

When Raj Thackeray arrived with his entire family, both the families were seen together, while Uddhav Thackeray attended with his wife Rashmi Thackeray. Amit Thackeray and Urvashi Thackeray were also present.

Aditya and Tejas Thackeray were also present to celebrate Bhai Dooj. It was purely a family moment for both the cousins, but it created a stir in the state politics.

The estranged cousins reunited after nearly 20 years on the issue of Marathi pride even as they strongly opposed the implementation of Hindi as a compulsory language after Marathi and English from Class One in the state by the BJP-led Mahayuti government under the guise of the National Education Policy.

In the face of strong opposition from the Thackeray brothers, opposition parties and literary organisations, the state government withdrew two government proposals to introduce Hindi as the third compulsory language and then set up a committee headed by former Planning Commission member Narendra Jadhav to make recommendations.

Following the change in government, on July 5, the Thackeray brothers held a victory rally and announced that they had come together to live together.

This intensified talks of an alliance between Uddhav Thackeray-led Shiv Sena, Uddhav Balasaheb Thackeray and Raj Thackeray-led Maharashtra Navnirman Sena to defeat the BJP-led grand alliance in the upcoming Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation elections.

Although the Thackeray brothers are yet to formally decide on their alliance, they have come together with other opposition parties over the issue of vote rigging.

He was part of a delegation of opposition parties that met the state Chief Electoral Officer and the State Election Commissioner and demanded postponement of the upcoming local and civic body elections until the current voter list is improved.

He claimed that the reform is necessary as there are a large number of fake and duplicate voters. He also demanded a special summary revision of the voter list.

Last week, Uddhav Thackeray was present with his family at the inauguration of the lighting of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Park organized by Raj Thackeray.

Earlier, Uddhav had visited Raj Thackeray’s mother’s residence in Dadar to celebrate her birthday and before that, he had visited there during the Ganesh Utsav. The Thackeray brothers have met more than 10 times in the last four months.
