New Delhi, Oct 23 (IANS) In a breakthrough against organized crime, the Delhi Police Crime Branch, in coordination with Bihar Police, killed four wanted criminals in a late night encounter in Rohini, Delhi Police said on Thursday.

Those killed have been identified as Ranjan Pathak, Bimlesh Mahato, Manish Pathak and Aman Thakur and a combined reward of Rs 1 lakh was offered for their arrest.

The operation was conducted under the supervision of DCP (Crime Branch) Sanjeev Kumar Yadav after receiving secret information from Bihar Police about the gang’s activity in Delhi.

Four criminals of the notorious Sigma gang, responsible for some high-profile murders in Bihar, were also planning to launch a major criminal operation during the upcoming assembly elections, an official said.

Acting promptly, a joint team of both the armies launched an operation based on technical surveillance and human intelligence inputs.

At around 2:20 am on the midnight of October 22–23, police stopped a white Maruti Suzuki Baleno near Pancholi Park, Bahadur Shah Marg, Rohini.

When signaled to stop, the criminals opened fire on the police team without any provocation.

“On being signaled to stop, the occupants of the vehicle opened heavy fire at the police team without any provocation. The police personnel retaliated in self-defence, leading to a brief exchange of fire during which all four accused were injured,” the police said in its press note.

All four accused sustained injuries and were taken to Dr. Baba Saheb Ambedkar Hospital, where doctors declared them brought dead.

According to Delhi Police, the criminals were wanted in several cases related to murder, armed attack and illegal possession of weapons.

“There was a reward of Rs 1,00,000/- on the arrest of the accused,” it said.

Police recovered three semi-automatic pistols, a country-made gun and the car (Baleno) used by the accused.
