Lucknow, Oct 23 (IANS) Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Thursday ordered restructuring of the fire department and issued instructions to set up fire stations every 100 km on expressways.

“Ensure quick availability of fire and emergency services in every district. Establish a small fire station equipped with fire tenders every 100 kilometers on the expressway, so that relief and rescue operations can be initiated in case of an accident,” the CM said in a meeting with officials.

According to the statement issued by the Chief Minister’s Office (CMO), Chief Minister Adityanath said that the fire service is a department directly related to the safety of life and property of the public.

He said that the structure of the department should be such that it is capable of giving quick, efficient and reactive response in every situation.

He said, “The process of restructuring of the department should be completed in a time bound manner, so that its benefits can reach the public immediately.”

CM Adityanath said that in view of the increasing population, industrial expansion and pace of urbanization in the state, it has become the need of the hour to make the structure of the fire department more strong, modern and sensitive from the public safety point of view.

“Instead of limiting the fire service to just fire fighting, it should be developed into an integrated one encompassing disaster management, rescue operations and emergency services,” he said.

To increase the administrative efficiency and financial transparency of the department, an accounting cadre should be established in every district. Also, additional posts should be created in the State Fire Service Training College to further improve the quality of training and research, he said in the statement posted on Twitter.

“Following the instructions of CM Yogi Adityanath, this has paved the way for the creation of 98 new posts in the gazetted cadre and about 922 new posts in the non-gazetted cadre within the department,” the Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister’s Office said in a post on Twitter.

“This will give new strength to the efficiency and public service capacity of the fire service at the district, regional and headquarters level,” the CMO said.

The chief minister was informed at the meeting that as new operational units, adequate manpower has already been deployed for fire services at airports at Kushinagar, Azamgarh, Shravasti, Kanpur Nagar, Ayodhya, Aligarh, Moradabad, Chitrakoot and Sonbhadra, the statement said.
