‘Bihar is the land of Buddha’: BJP criticizes India Bloc over poll promise of government jobs

New Delhi, October 22 (IANS) The BJP on Wednesday launched a scathing attack on the India Bloc (RJD-Congress-Left alliance) over its ‘impractical’ and ‘unrealistic’ poll promises and concessions ahead of the Bihar elections and termed its ‘nepotism’ culture as a hindrance to the state’s progress.

BJP national spokesperson Sudhanshu Trivedi, in a press conference, took a dig at the grand alliance over its failure to reach an electoral agreement and consensus on the face of the chief ministerial post.

“Those who raised misplaced concerns over vote theft in Bihar’s electoral lists are unable to finalize their seat-sharing formula. They are not able to reach a consensus on nominating candidates, finalizing their CM face, holding joint press conferences, releasing a general election manifesto,” the BJP spokesperson said.

Trivedi also took aim at several big election promises made by Tejashwi Yadav to the people of the state including government job to every family and pointed out the financial condition of the state to expose his lies.

He told the press, “Tejashwi Yadav’s election promises amount to a mockery of the electoral process. He promised to give 1 government job to every family. Bihar’s current population is a little over 13 crore, and about 23 lakh people are government employees. According to his measurements, about 3 crore permanent government jobs would need to be created, and this would cost about Rs 10 lakh crore.”

“Bihar’s budget is only Rs 3.17 lakh crore, how can one expect it to be completed?” he asked, warning the Grand Alliance not to take people lightly.

The BJP leader said, “This is the land of Lord Buddha, do not try to fool the people of Bihar. This is my appeal to Tejashwi and the INDI block.”

Highlighting the liberation of women under the NDA government, Trivedi said that when the Nitish government was formed, the literacy rate of women in the state was barely 33 per cent, and now it has increased to 77 per cent.

He further said, “Lakhpati Didi, Drone Didi, Sukanya Samriddhi Yojana have been empowering women for a decade. A systematic, consistent and pragmatic approach under the double engine government is delivering results for all categories of people; however, the opposition is trying to sabotage these achievements by making false and highly inflated promises.”

When he was questioned about new entrant Jan Suraj, he said that this is not the right time to support any experimental politics and also cited the example of Delhi, where a party born out of the anti-corruption movement ‘fooled and deceived’ the people.

“Any new experimental politics can be harmful. The voters of Bihar understand this. Only the tried and tested leadership under Nitish Kumar can ensure that Bihar’s development journey continues,” he said.

Sudhanshu Trivedi also attacked the RJD for ‘promoting its family’ at the expense of voters and wrongly ‘positioning’ itself as a champion of backward castes and classes.

He said, “Dynasticism is deeply ingrained in the RJD. Lalu is the RJD president, Tejashwi is the leader of the opposition, while Rabri Devi is the leader of the opposition in the Legislative Council. This shows how much they care about the backward community.”

Questioning the party’s tall claims of clean and progressive politics, he also referred to Lalu’s old election slogan – “Don’t cast your vote, vote for your caste”.

“Any sane person can understand that they are playing a crude joke on the voters,” he said.

Accusing the RJD of protecting criminals along with crime, he said that when Lalu Prasad Yadav came to power in the 1990s, he came to power on an anti-corruption campaign, but today the same scale has turned against him, making him ineligible to contest the current elections.
