Microsoft co-founder Bill Gates is set to make his debut on Indian television with a brief appearance via video call in the popular soap opera. Because mother-in-law is always the daughter-in-law 2Starring Smriti Irani.

“This is a historic moment in Indian entertainment,” former Women and Child Development Minister Smriti Irani said in an interview with CNBC-TV18.

“For too long, women’s and children’s health has been on the margins of the mainstream conversation. This initiative is a powerful step towards changing that,” Irani said.

Gates’ appearance is expected to last three episodes and will focus on maternal and newborn health, a topic closely linked to the charitable work of the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation. The segment will feature the Microsoft co-founder interacting with Irani’s character, Tulsi Virani, via video call.

Confirming Gates’ special appearance, Irani said, “Bringing together one of the world’s most respected global voices with one of Indian television’s most influential storytellers is more than a collaboration – it is the beginning of a people’s movement, a people’s movement rooted in awareness, empathy and action.”

The cameo is part of the show’s latest storyline, which focuses on raising awareness about pregnancy and baby care. “The story focuses on creating awareness about and improving the health of pregnant women and newborns,” a source told the outlet.

Because mother-in-law is always the daughter-in-law 2 is garnering attention for its deliberate effort to incorporate social issues into its storylines, covering topics ranging from body positivity to generational conflict and women empowerment, along with entertainment appeal.

Producer Ekta Kapoor is reportedly trying her best to keep the show engaging and engaging, with Bill Gates’ rare guest appearance being a part of the same strategy.

This cameo follows several notable guest appearances in the series. Earlier this year, actors Sakshi Tanwar and Kiran Karmarkar reprized their famous roles in a much-awaited reunion.

The latest episode airs at 10:30 pm on StarPlus and is available to stream on JioHotstar, as part of a limited season consisting of 165-170 episodes.
