The Tripura government has said all its offices will remain open on October 23, the day a statewide strike has been called by a civil society organization demanding immediate implementation of the Tiprasa agreement.

Tripura Civil Society has called for a bandh on Thursday over eight-point demands including immediate implementation of the Tiprasa Agreement, identification of all illegal immigrants, setting up detention camps in every district for illegal immigrants.

A release issued by the state Information and Cultural Affairs (ICA) department said, “It has come to the notice of the government that some organizations have called for a statewide strike on October 23. Keeping this issue in mind, government offices and undertaking offices will remain open on October 23. The government workforce will work as usual.”

The release said that the officers concerned have been asked to submit information regarding attendance in government offices on October 23 to the General Administration Department.

State police PRO Rajdeep Deb said the police would take all necessary steps to ensure peace on Thursday.

Tipra Motha Party (TMP) MLA Ranjit Debbarma, who is leading the agitation, said Tripura Civil Society will put up barricades at 25 places in the state in support of the bandh.

He said, “This is not a political movement, where people of all sections, irrespective of political colour, will participate in the bandh. We are ready to make the bandh successful in a peaceful manner in support of our demands.”
