Hyderabad, October 22 (IANS) Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy and leaders of various political parties on Wednesday paid rich tributes to the great tribal martyr Komaram Bheem on his birth anniversary.

CM Revanth Reddy paid glorious tribute to the tribal deity worshiped by the tribal Girijas. He said that great warriors are a source of inspiration for the struggle for survival and self-respect.

Former Vice President of India M. Venkaiah Naidu said that Komaram Bhima ignited the spirit of independence among the Gonds with the slogan of “Jal, Jungle, Zameen” and fought for tribal rights.

Venkaiah Naidu posted on Twitter, “I pay tribute to the memory of that great soul. His struggle was not only for freedom but also for a discrimination-free society. The true tribute to him is to build a new India free from poverty, hunger, discrimination and corruption. I hope that inspired by this spirit, the youth will become partners in building a developed India that will tolerate no discrimination.”

Panchayat Raj and Rural Development Minister Danasari Seethakka posted his tribute on Instagram. His post read, “Self-respect born from the womb of Mother Forest… Flag of defiance raised for the rights of tribals… On the occasion of the birth anniversary of Shri Komaram Bheem, a heartfelt tribute to that great soul.”

Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) working president KT Rama Rao called Komaram a tribal warrior and rebel hero.

He said the KCR-led BRS rule was inspired by Komram Bhim’s slogan of Jal, Jungle, Zameen. He said, “We moved towards realizing his aspirations. Increasing the number of ST Gurukuls and colleges, providing Ambedkar Overseas Scholarship, training tribal children as industrialists through the CMSTEI scheme, all these were inspired by Komram Bheem. We started many such programmes.”

KTR recalled that during the BRS regime Asifabad district was named after Komram Bheem and a beautiful memorial was established at Jodeghat, and a tribal building was constructed in the name of Komram Bheem in Hyderabad.

Telangana awakening leader K. Kavita said that Komaram Bhima fought all his life for the rights of tribals. The Telangana movement moved forward with his call and spirit of struggle.

Tribal people from different parts of Telangana and other states including Maharashtra and Chhattisgarh visited Jodeghat village in Komram Bheem Asifabad district to pay homage at the memorial of the Gond leader.
